One of the advantages of using a guided meditation is; by simply listening, you do not have to think about what you are doing. The teacher's voice is always there to keep you on track and the mind tends not to wander off into mundane matters, such as how long you have been meditating or what to eat tonight etc.
Guided meditations can be also very helpful when learning to meditate, and for specific issues that arise in your life that need your focus (for example, relationships).

As a general guideline before meditating, make yourself as comfortable as possible and relax. Close your eyes, take a slow deep breath and as you exhale try to let go of any mental worries you are holding on to. Thereafter, simply allow yourself to be carried by what you see and hear.
